I learned opening from my mother
how to open the day with
ritual and quiet
how to open dreams like flowers
how to open my heart to love
I learned closing from my father
how to close the day with reflection
and ritual
how to take a breath and savor the
moments before something ends
how to cry in all the sad movies

(This one was just begging to be poemed.)
I learned afternoon from my mother
how to leave work early
visit the dentist then celebrate
with mint chocolate chip ice cream
how to cheer the sunset
I learned morning from my father
how to nurse a cup of black coffee
in the beautiful dark
how to read with starlight quiet
how to rise before the sun

Open like rose,
Deep red tulip rose lipstick living love.
Open.
Let sky breathe in blue,
And move like foam is in shook.
Foam is in shook. 👋
