✨ Portrait of a Reader: Monica Silva
Pastry. Polynesian dance. UX writing. Meet a fellow Every Day Poems reader!
As part of our upcoming 12th birthday celebration, we asked readers to share about themselves and their experiences with Every Day Poems.
Monica Silva has joined in and shared some inspiring things we hope you’ll enjoy!
About Monica
Reader Monica Silva has been with our Every Day Poems community for almost 12 years. She is currently a UX writer and editor learning the world of human-centered design, and has also worked as an engineer, an educator, and a chocolatier/pastry cook. She likes Polynesian dance, playing self-taught musical instruments, origami, and cooking and baking from scratch.
Geography
Says Monica, “I’ve lived in Colorado for the past two and a half decades, but in my head and heart I’m always by the ocean.” While she doesn’t look for the first sign of spring, pink snapdragons always surprise her when they “come up through the landscaping rocks.”
Every Day Poems Reading Ritual?
“I keep favorites in special email folders and revisit those folders every now and then.”
Tea or Coffee?
Tea. Moana blend from Harney & Sons.
Cake
Chocolate layer cake with ganache or mousse filling (mostly filling and thin cake layers).
Birthday Greeting to Every Day Poems
“I'm so happy to celebrate your Delightful Dozen years!”
Quote from Every Day Poems to Send to Herself on Her Own Birthday
"The deepest thing in us, that, rising above us, forces its way out ..."
—from Rilke’s “On Music” (published April 14, 2015)
.
Thank you, Monica, for sharing with the community! :)

I am with you on that ocean thought, Monica. And, of course, the chocolate cake.
And this quote. Today. Yes. And yes again. "The deepest thing in us, that, rising above us, forces its way out ..."
